Becoming A Good Neighbor, Inc.

Picture it: "Snowmagedden" 2009. Thirty-two inches of snow, 1 of the 5 worse blizzards in 144-year history covering a majority of the Northeastern United States.  Neighboring households were shoveling their lungs out, working in tandem because doing it alone was futile. 

As a reward for teamwork, one house invited the others to dinner and the Super Bowl later that evening. Over beer and buffalo wings, our bond was solidified, and our destiny sealed. For the next 13 years we would share in life, death, triumph and tragedy, fun, friendship, family, and at the core genuine love.  

In 2015, an onslaught of life’s hard blows began. Multiple medical procedures and health crises ravaged neighboring households through injuries and debilitating diagnoses. Living closely created a support system, an extension of each family that allowed us to maintain our lifestyles and livelihoods.  

Within our own community, we gave rides, prepared meals, watched children, visited bedside, helped with chores, mowed the lawn, and prayed.  Some of the hardest fought times in our lives were experienced at each other’s dining room tables. 

WHY A GOOD NEIGHBOR? 

In a time when people don't really get to know their neighbors anymore, what we've learned is that community is a blessing. We've learned that neighbors can become friends, and friends can become family. We appreciate that everyone doesn’t get this lucky.  As our families change and age we want to be that same blessing to those who don’t have the fortune of having a good neighbor next door.
